Marketing on a Platter

Salon of the Month July 2019 – Blush Boutique

about-us1-960x535.jpg

Based in tranquil Gold Creek Village, ACT, Blush Boutique prides itself on offering a complete experience thanks to a full range of services that allow clients to be pampered from head to toe. Blush’s award-winning, fully qualified team of beauty therapists and hairdressers can do it all - specialising in makeup artistry, spray tanning, body sugaring, nails, hair styling, skin care and advanced skin treatments, including LED and needling.

Having first stocked Youngblood 8 years ago, owner Sammi Barton has since gone on to add Image Skincare, Sunescape, Dermalux LED, Bestow Beauty, Pure Fiji, Body Sugaring Australia, Wotnot and Cherry Blooms to her salon’s offering, with great success.

“We started with Youngblood many years ago and fell in love with the products - as well as the support that came with being a PBS salon partner. And as PBS grew, so did we! One by one we took on new brands that we knew PBS loved and trusted, and there’s not one brand we’ve put in the salon that we haven’t loved and that hasn’t flown off the shelves. The results that each brand delivers really do speak for themselves!”

As part of their marketing activities, Blush Boutique hold at least one VIP event a year which includes an evening of education, makeup demonstrations, and a hands-on contouring and brow class. They’ve held Skin School workshops to educate clients on effectively caring for their skin using the Image Skincare AM/PM principle, and Sammi has also implemented a client membership/loyalty program that’s noticeably increased the frequency of customer visits and in salon spend.

As Blush Boutique continues to flourish, Sammi credits not only her amazing team of therapists for the salon’s success, but also the invaluable support PBS provides. Using PBS’s Marketing On A Platter (MOAP) on a daily basis to share campaigns and implement marketing strategies, both in salon and on social media, has been crucial to the success of Blush Boutique, and has freed up Sammi to focus on other areas of her business.

“As every salon owner would know, it’s extremely hard to find the time to schedule marketing and put together campaigns, so having access to social media graphics, posters and EDMs via Marketing On A Platter has been amazing. Not only has it helped me increase my average client spend and visit frequency, but it also makes merchandising in the salon a lot easier! Instead of just having a wall of products, the marketing materials from PBS help me create stories within the displays – allowing me to create eye-catching point of sale areas.”

Salon of the Month May 2019 – Beautorium

salon pic 2 .jpg

Beautorium is a professional home-based beauty salon, designed to be the ultimate beauty destination for the busy working woman. Doing business for almost 7 years and going from strength to strength, Beautorium’s mission is to empower clients to believe that their appointments are an important part of their self-care routine, and not just a luxury.

Owned and run by Angela Sanchez, Beautorium offers flexible after-hours appointments and 1-on-1 customer experiences that offer skin and body solutions via new and innovative treatments and exceptional customer service. Angela strives for excellence in all that she does and wants to involve her clients in their skincare and wellness journey as much as possible.

Beautorium’s relationship with PBS began two and a half years ago when they took on Image Skincare and since then Angela has welcomed LUK Beautifood, WotNot wipes, CherryBlooms, Body Sugaring Australia, Sunescape and Ecococo Crystals into the salon. Says Angela, “Three years ago I felt lost, with no idea how I could grow my business, but partnering with PBS has lifted my business to new heights! It’s so important to find a brand partner who supports, encourages and recognises small business success and that partner is PBS! I’m so proud to partner with PBS because they continually deliver on their promises and always keeps me motivated to strive towards my business goals and growth!”

As part of their marketing activities, Beautorium ran a super-successful International Women’s Day Bestow Beauty Breakfast at a local café, which resulted in introducing 10 existing clients to Bestow Beauty and gaining two new clients to the salon. Attendees made ‘Bestow Glow Smoothie Bowls’ at this event, and they’re now being added to the cafe’s menu! Angela has also created a Beauty Addict Membership program which has increased customer frequency and spend within the salon.

Beautorium also uses the PBS Marketing on a Platter (MOAP) on a daily basis to share campaigns and implement marketing strategies in salon and on social media.

“I don’t have to view content creation as being a setback anymore because the MOAPs do it all for me! Using the MOAPs saves me so much time and I’ve definitely noticed that consistent marketing really does pay off. It’s so rewarding when your clients say something like, ‘Oh, what’s that facial roller thing I saw you doing on your stories?’ which then leads them to book a facial or buy the product and implement it into their daily routines.”Angela Sanchez, Beautorium owner

Well done to Angela for creating such an amazing salon! We’re excited to be able to be a part of Beautorium’s success story and can’t wait to see how the salon continues to grow. Congratulations on being our PBS Salon of the Month!

Saya opened 5 years ago with 2 therapists and 0 clients. Today, they have 5 staff members and a database of over 3,000 clients which continues to grow each day! Saya Medispa believes that their experience and relationships they have with their clients is what sets them apart from other spas.

“Our client’s comfort and experience are our main priority, ensuring each treatment goes above and beyond their expectations” states salon owner, Aleshia-Anne Fowler. “Saya has a distinctive essence when you walk into the salon. Clients enjoy visiting us even if it’s just for a wax, as they are still in an environment that’s relaxing and welcoming. Many clients say “I feel like I am in Fiji when I am here” and this is exactly how we want them to feel…relaxed and as if they are somewhere other than just another local salon.”

Saya Medispa currently stock the majority of PBS brands since initially taking on Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics in 2013. They are also stockists of Sunescape, Pure Fiji, Body Sugaring Australia, Bestow Beauty, Wotnot Naturals, Caronlab, Cherry Blooms, and have just recently taken on PBS’ two newest brands – LUK Beautifood and ECOCOCO.

“We started off with just stocking Youngblood and Pure Fiji and our love for all the brands PBS stock just grew. Each brand PBS introduces I have to get my hands on and try. We are always trying to keep up to date with the latest trends in our industry and we believe that PBS provides us with ALL of the information we need to be able to provide the best possible treatments and products to our ever-growing clientele.” explains Aleshia.

Saya Medispa continues to grow their clientele with loyalty programs, customer feedback and their VIP shopping nights. They have held two events this year where they offered 20% of their entire retail stock, with selected stock reduced even further. “We found that clients purchase more products and try more products than they have ever tried before. Each client spends a minimum of $150 and we are getting at least 15-30 clients visit these VIP Shopping Nights. These nights have been a major success as we have more and more clients making repeat purchases after trying and falling in love with new products they might not have tried otherwise.” said Aleshia.

On top of an already big year for Saya Medispa, they received “Pure Fiji Stockist of the Year – Runner Up” at PBS’ annual awards night in September. They are also a major sponsor for Mikaela-Rose Fowler who is the current Miss Intercontinental Australia 2018.

Saya Medispa has also found success in using PBS’ Marketing on a Platter (MOAP), using social media graphics to promote their products on social media as well as Youngblood 4 Minute Makeovers to upsell and introduce new products to their clients.

Salon of the Month – Anna’s Skin and Beauty

a2.jpg

A beautifully appointed beauty salon in Townsville, Anna’s Skin and Beauty offers personalised beauty and skincare services courtesy of their experienced and passionate technician, Anna Preston.

After spending the last few years working with other local beauty therapists, Owner/Operator Anna now brings her 19 years of experience into her very own salon. Clients enjoy the specialised personal service she provides while using only the best professional skin care and mineral makeup.

“The biggest complaint I received as a manager working in previous salons was that clients see a different person each time they visit. Being an Owner/Operator, my clients see me every time. I do all the treatments and work alone. My clients love that they get me all to themselves when they come in…it’s a true one-on-one relationship” explains Anna.

However, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Anna’s Skin and Beauty in 2018. After 14 months of trading the salon was completely destroyed by fire. “My drive and determination was stronger than the devastation I was feeling” said Anna. Throughout the heartache, she stayed positive about getting the business running again, and in a remarkable turnaround, Anna’s Skin and Beauty had re-opened at a new premise in just 4 weeks.

The business has now begun a new chapter and currently stock Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, Image Skincare and Cherry Blooms.

“I worked with Youngblood for about 14 years at a previous salon. I loved it then and thought it would be perfect for the North Queensland climate. As for Image Skincare, it’s my favourite skincare range of all time. I love the results I get for my clients and myself. Image actually CHANGES skin and people’s lives! said Anna.

On how to excel in customer service, Anna believes in continuous education and training, ensuring she’s offers the very best in client treatments and up-to-date customer education. “Being in the beauty industry for 21 years and attending countless seminars, training, customer service courses, I have learnt and developed how to give my clients 100% each and every time they come in. It’s about recognising what people want and need and providing that for them and not being lazy. As an owner operator it is up to me and me alone. I am 100% responsible for the success of my salon.” said Anna. “I am honest with my sales and client expectations. I’m not pushy, but I am helpful as I only want the best for my clients.”

Rated as one of the top 3 beauty salons in Townsville, as well as being featured in several North Queensland Magazines (including DUO, Success, and Business Development Magazine), Anna’s Skin and Beauty are also active users of Marketing on a Platter (MOAP), which allows them to easily run monthly and seasonal promotions in salon and via social media. “I LOVE MOAP, especially for inspiration and social media. The quality of the material and images provided is amazing” said Anna.

Well done to Anna for their amazing achievements 2018! We’re excited to be able to be a part of their success story and can’t wait to see how Anna’s Skin and Beauty continues to grow. Congratulations on earning Salon of the Month.

Discover the Key to Success with PBS

PassiontoProfits2016429-bw.jpg

Professional Beauty Solutions (PBS) is Australia’s most respected and trusted distributor of professional beauty brands to beauty salons, spas and clinics across the country. Building their reputation over almost two decades, they source the world’s most impressive and innovative beauty brands, and deliver them to salon, spa and clinic partners.

We sat down with Matt Williams, CEO and owner of Professional Beauty Solutions to discuss what you can expect when you partner with PBS:

  1. Tell us about your business
My parents originally met Pauline Youngblood back in 1995 and after falling in love with her brand, convinced her to award them the Australian distribution of Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics. Nine years on, after they had built a loyal salon following, they understood that to grow the business they were going to need some help. In 2006, my wife and business partner, Lisa and I took over operations, growing the business from a team you could count on one hand to over 40 exceptional team members at our head office in Kurnell, Sydney.
Today, we distribute 11 professional beauty, skin and body brands that are leaders in their categories, throughout more than 2,000 salons, spas and clinics across the country.

  2. What products do PBS distribute?
As soon as we started to expand our offering beyond makeup, we became fixated on providing our salons with everything they need from one convenient supplier. Today, our salons trust us with offering the best in mineral makeup, skincare, tanning, spa body, hair removal, inner beauty nutrition and LED technology to satisfy their business needs. Our collective of world-class brands are chosen based on their efficacy, innovation, performance and profitability for the salon and unlike a typical wholesaler that might carry multiple brands and offer minimal support, we only select the best of the best within each category, providing a full service.
Our brands will not only deliver the results their clients are looking for, but also provide them with the support and education they need to grow a profitable business.

  3. What is your overall mission at PBS?
The question that we are constantly asking is, “How do we help our salon, spa and clinic partners become more profitable?”. That is our key goal at PBS, and is what drives our decisions when acquiring new brands and coming up with strategies to support and nurture our salons.
With more than two decades of experience behind us, and having bought, built and sold several businesses over the past 20 years, we understand the challenges that small businesses face, and know we can lead you on what we like to call, a pathway to profitability. We have taken all the experience, knowledge and the lessons we have learnt – also known as, mistakes – and channeled it towards doing whatever we can to make our salon business owners’ life easier, from the marketing tools and ongoing education to the business support we offer.
This year, I will be expanding on our vision by launching a new coaching platform for our salons, including live workshops on how to build a profitable, predictable business in 2018.

  4. Speaking of education, it is a fundamental key for any business’s success. What does PBS do to ensure their clients stay at the forefront of an ever-evolving industry?
Our industry is evolving rapidly, and salon owners need to stay current if they want to remain the trusted authority on beauty in their client’s lives.
Each year Lisa and I travel to international trade shows and conferences to make sure that we are staying ahead of what is happening in the industry. We share this information with our salon partners throughout the year through our educational Facebook Live sessions with guest speakers, annual education events like Beauty Expo and our own Passion to Profits roadshows, and hopefully along the way we also inspire our salon partners to grow and evolve their business to the next level.
Training and education is without question one of our crucial points of difference at PBS. To help our salons grow, we have employed a qualified team of Business Development Managers in each state who conduct monthly classroom trainings for each brand, as well in-salon focus training.

  5. Do you offer any incentives or rewards to support the growth of your salons?
Absolutely! Our newly relaunched PBS Rewards Program makes it much easier to leverage your buying power by pooling your rewards points when you stock more than one brand with us. By combining rewards from up to eleven brands – including wax and sugar – even as a small single operator, you can reach a reward status that might otherwise have been reserved for bigger salons. The more PBS brands you stock, the more support you gain! I think this is a rewards system that truly levels the playing field and is unlike anything else in the industry.

  6. What makes PBS stand out as a distributor in terms of the level of service you offer?
I think the greatest differentiator for us is our focus on supporting salons in becoming better business owners, carrying them to the top of their game. Most brands and distributors focus entirely on educating salons on their product’s benefits and how they can sell more. This is only one aspect of running a successful, profitable and predictable business, and a small fragment of what we offer. We have now developed systems for each aspect of your business, from daily sales tracking sheets to business health checks and workshops that address the financial foundations of the business. Our exclusive ‘Marketing on a Platter’ – where we deliver FREE monthly marketing sets for each brand – is just one of the ways we provide a service that cannot otherwise be found in this industry.

  7. As for the future of Professional Beauty Solutions…
Our mission drives our vision for the future of PBS! We know that over the next decade there will be much more disruption in our industry and we can’t be complacent, and we can’t resist change, but we will remain guided by our mission to make PBS salons, spas and clinics the most profitable in the industry.

I Need More Customers!

shutterstock_383867146.jpg

This is the number one problem that salon spa and clinic owners face, so why is it so difficult to solve?

When a beauty therapist decides to open a salon, they are filled with optimism and excitement about the journey ahead of them. Many anticipate all of the time, money, freedom and fulfillment that they will enjoy profiting from their passion…but, then comes the reality of running a small business!

All of that optimism fades quickly when you are struggling to attract customers, retain team members and no matter how hard you try, you just cannot seem to figure out where all the money goes.

So why is reality such a far cry from the original goal? As is the case across so many industries, beauty therapists are not usually experienced business owners and operators and are unsurprisingly trained in beauty therapy, not graphic design or marketing. We know that running your own business takes up more time than you seemingly have in any given day, and can feel like it is taking you away from your original passion; making your clients look and feel their absolute best.

There is no question that most beauty therapists that open a salon or spa are amazing at performing treatments and understanding how to get amazing results for their clients. However, this is a completely different skill set to what is required to run and promote a small business.

That is why Professional Beauty Solutions (PBS) have been working tirelessly to deliver the tools required to completely transform this reality for salon owners.

Solving Your Number 1 Challenge with Marketing on a Platter

Marketing on a Platter (MOAP) is designed to take a huge load of work off your plate by doing your marketing for you!
