Sell more this Christmas with these merchandising tips

Sell more this Christmas with these merchandising tips!

Good merchandising is important year-round, but never more so than during a salon’s busiest time of year – Christmas! With clients flooding through the door for their pre-party facial or last-minute treatment, now’s the time to get them to spend their Christmas present cash in your business!

The average Australian will spend $537 on gifts this Christmas, and (perhaps not surprisingly), women spend more than men! This is great news for your salon, spa or clinic, so make sure you’re capitalising on this willingness to spend by offering your clients beautifully merchandised gift packs and gift cards.

Don’t let your clients walk out of your salon and into the shop next door to buy their gifts this Christmas – make sure your clients know that they can get all their gifting sorted right there in salon, without having to step foot inside a busy shopping centre or worrying about online purchases arriving in time.

Find our top three tips below, and remember, if they don’t know about it, they can’t buy it – so have your gifting products on prominent display, and make sure your staff are telling every one of your clients about them!

1.       Display your Christmas gift packs front and centre

Christmas-themed gift packs make for beautifully festive additions to your shop floor during the silly season – make sure they’re on prominent display somewhere your clients can’t miss them. A main display area works well, but try to scatter some throughout all your shelves, so you can catch those impulse buyers who may not be looking specifically for a gift. If you can, create a window display with your gift packs to entice passers-by!

2.       Group gift packs by price point

People often have individual budgets in mind when they’re buying gifts for friends and family, so grouping gift packs by price is a great way to make their decision making easier. Displaying your gift packs and gift cards by price point – under $25, under $50, under $100 etc – removes the guess work and helps shoppers make quicker purchasing decisions. Outside of gift packs, having all your products clearly priced will also make purchasing easier for your customers, as they can calculate their spend as they go, without having to ask how much each item costs.

3.       Have your gift cards on display at POS

A recent poll estimated that 63% of shoppers will purchase at least one gift card during the holiday season, so you should definitely be displaying your gift cards on your counter, and throughout your product displays if you can. Perfect for capturing indecisive and last-minute shoppers, gift cards are not only a great revenue driver, they’re the gift that keeps on giving because each one sold directs a potential new client to your business!

Keep the customer front and centre in your mind when you’re merchandising this Christmas, and remember to promote your gifting options at every opportunity – verbally in salon, with posters and window displays, and via email and social media. Merry Christmas!
